Minimal Audio has released Memory Rites, a new instrument and Current preset expansion made in collaboration with EPROM.
The release is interesting for two reasons.
First, it gives you 60 custom-designed EPROM presets built in Minimal Audio’s Current synth. Second, it introduces Current Expansion Player, a new plugin format that lets you play artist-built Current expansions without owning the full version of Current.
That second part is probably the bigger news for many producers. Current is a super deep synth, but not everyone wants to buy into the full instrument just to access a specific artist sound pack.
With Memory Rites, you can get the dedicated Expansion Player plugin for $29, while existing Current owners can pick up the preset expansion for $19.

Of course, EPROM’s name tells you a lot about the direction of this release. This is not a general-purpose “bread and butter” pack. Memory Rites focuses on distorted bass, complex rhythmic material, and experimental electronic sounds, with some amazing sound design.
The preset count breaks down into 25 basses, 14 leads, 9 pads, 6 keys, and 6 SFX patches. Minimal Audio describes the release as “EPROM’s creative memory in playable form,” and I absolutely agree that this one is less about recreating classic synth tones and more about putting a curated sound world under your fingers.
Each preset includes custom macros mapped by EPROM, so the Player version gives you single-knob performance controls for shaping the sound, plus mod wheel and pitch-bend assignments with movement built into the patches.
That’s awesome because sounds like these can fall flat if you play them too static. The fun is usually in bending the texture, adding instability, messing with the transients, and so on.
If you own Current, the same 60 presets can also be opened inside the full synth engine for deeper editing. That means the Player works as a focused instrument for quick use, while the Current expansion gives sound designers full access to the underlying synthesis, modulation, samples, and wavetables.
The release also fits into Minimal Audio’s All Access subscription, but it is available as a one-time perpetual purchase with two activations, free updates, and support.
EPROM Memory Rites runs on macOS 10.11 or later, including native Apple Silicon support, and Windows 10 or later. It works in 64-bit DAWs as a VST2, VST3, AU, or AAX instrument plugin. An internet connection is required for activation, but not for general use.
