Mastering The Mix has released MIXVAULT, a new immersive EQ plugin for macOS and Windows.
The launch follows several recent Mastering The Mix releases we covered on BPB, including REFERENCE 3 and STEREOVAULT. MIXVAULT is the ultimate upgrade to the developer’s earlier EQ tools, especially MIXROOM and BASSROOM.
The idea behind MIXVAULT is to make EQ moves feel less like editing a curve and more like shaping the sound in front of you. Instead of dragging a traditional EQ node up or down, you pull a frequency closer to bring it forward or push it away to pull it back.
The interface uses a 3D room-style view that reacts as you work, with Hertz strips on the walls for zooming into specific frequency ranges. You can still fine-tune things when needed, including scrolling over a band to adjust Q or double-clicking a dB value to type an exact amount.
Mastering The Mix is putting a lot of emphasis on honest monitoring here. MIXVAULT level-matches every move in real time, so you are hearing the tonal change rather than being tricked by extra loudness. There is also a live delta visual that shows how the EQ is changing the signal, plus a Delta button for listening to the difference between the dry and processed sound.
MIXVAULT can analyze your audio and create Smart Presets based on the source and genre. You can choose mix, vocals, drums, bass, or music, then step through suggested tonal directions ranging from darker and fuller to brighter and more forward. The presets are built from your actual audio rather than simply loading a static curve.
The plugin offers four resolution modes. Broad gives you four wide bands for quick tonal shaping, Balanced provides six bands for general mastering work, Detailed offers nine tighter bands for more specific problem areas, and Bass focuses five bands from 20 Hz to 320 Hz.
The Bass mode uses an improved version of the filter from BASSROOM, designed for low-end shaping with minimal phase and transient distortion. Mastering The Mix also says MIXVAULT’s default filters match the frequency response of a market-leading linear-phase EQ at its maximum quality setting, but with 36 times less latency.
You can also import reference tracks and use them as tonal targets, with level-matched comparison. Other workflow features include A/B states, undo/redo, global bypass, trim controls, dry/wet mix, keyboard shortcuts, and a resizable interface.
