UltraVox 2 is a quick, set-and-forget vocal chain for recording, production, and mixing. Instead of loading and configuring a bunch of separate processors, you simply get six vocal-focused algorithms on one screen.
The controls are easy to understand. Compression evens out peaks with a soft-knee design and program-dependent timing. The Gate reduces room noise, breaths, and mouth sounds that may become more noticeable after compression.
Harmonics adds second and third-order harmonics for extra warmth and polish, while Air applies tonal shaping around 12 kHz to add clarity and brightness without making the vocal unnecessarily harsh.
The recently released Version 2 expanded the original UltraVox with a dedicated De-Esser and Reverb. The De-Esser analyzes frequency and timing information to control sibilance, while the custom impulse-response reverb blends characteristics associated with halls, plates, and chambers into a ready-made vocal space.
The interface is resizable and keeps every control visible, with separate input and output gain settings. UltraVox 2 supports sample rates up to 384 kHz.
For me, the main attraction here is the workflow speed. Each processor has a focused set of controls rather than a full page of technical parameters, and the algorithms are designed to work together and influence each other.
I think it’s a solid vocal processing tool for songwriters and producers who want a polished starting point without having to build a vocal chain from scratch.
UltraVox 2 is available in 64-bit VST3 and AAX formats for Windows 8 and 10, plus VST3, AAX, and AU for macOS 10.13 or later. Apple Silicon is supported natively.
