WET VST releases FREE WetEQ and WetCompressor analog-style plugins

August 31, 2026By Tomislav ZlaticNo Comments
WetEQ and WetCompressor

Ronald Klarenbeek has released WetEQ and WetCompressor, two free and open-source analog-style plugins for macOS, Windows, and Linux.

These are the follow-ups to WetDelay and WetReverb, which we featured in March. The developer told me that the two earlier plugins have since reached over 3,000 users.

He started seeing YouTube Shorts of producers using WetDelay and realized that people really liked it, which motivated him to make more plugins.

And if you’re interested in the trials and tribulations of indie devs, there’s more to learn from Roland. For example, his previous plugins used only buttons, but WetEQ and WetCompressor took longer to develop because they needed knobs. Each animated knob requires a filmstrip showing the same object at every position.

Image-generation tools kept changing the knob slightly between frames, so Ronald eventually built a small 3D renderer. He modeled one knob from photographs of real console hardware and rendered every required position consistently. That system can now be reused for future WET plugins.

But we’re all here for the actual plugins, so let’s take a closer look.

WetEQ is a four-band British console-style equalizer with low and high shelves, two bell bands, high-pass and low-pass filters, and input Gain. Each band offers ±15 dB of adjustment.

All eleven controls have nine stepped positions, including the frequency selectors. There is no Q knob because the bandwidth follows the amount of boost or cut. It becomes narrower as you push harder.

WetCompressor is a 76-style FET compressor with a fixed 4:1 ratio and threshold. Input controls how hard you drive the gain cell, and Output provides makeup gain. Both offer 21 positions in 3 dB steps.

Fast, Normal, and Slow buttons select the linked attack and release settings. Even Slow keeps the attack under one millisecond, while the high-resolution meters show stereo input, gain reduction, and output levels.

The stepped controls are inspired by mastering hardware. You simply pick the closest setting, decide whether it works, and move on. I like that approach because it really makes it easier to make decisions.

Both plugins also emulate self-noise, crosstalk at multiple circuit stages, component variation between channels, and saturation that changes with how the circuit is driven.

As with previous releases, they use the Steinberg VST3 SDK directly, without JUCE.

All four plugins are free forever and MIT-licensed, with complete source code available. They’re all VST3 on Windows, Linux, and macOS (Intel and Apple Silicon). The macOS builds are unsigned and may require manual approval.
