From Luftrum comes the Symbiotic Volume 2 preset collection for Omnisphere 3.
Symbiotic is a new collaborative series from Danish sound designer Luftrum (Søren).
The series offers custom Omnisphere 3 presets crafted by Luftrum and guest artists (Omnisphere 3 required).
Luftrum recently released Symbiotic Volume 1, a collaboration with Swedish artist Plughugger.
Symbiotic Volume 2 sees Luftrum joining forces with Tom Wolfe, the UK sound designer behind the Synth Vault monthly preset club.
The latest addition to the Symbiotic series isn’t the first collaboration between these two well-respected sound designers. The pair recently collaborated on a small set of ten Omnisphere 3 presets you can download for free from Synth Vault – Luftrum x Wolfe.
If you have Omnisphere 3, Symbiotic Volume 2 is a god buy at $29 (20% discount if you sign up for the Luftrum newsletter).
The pack includes the following:
- 55 presets by Luftrum
- 15 presets by Tom Wolfe
- 27 bonus presets using Omnisphere’s Mutation feature
- 6 high-res desktop wallpaper images
The presets include a good variety of textural and rhythmic patches.
As you’d expect from these two artists, every preset has lots of detail, whether it’s how the sound evolves, shimmering arpeggios over textural pads, or drifting movement.
The collection features rhythmic sounds that are tight and focused, and ideal as the backbone of a cinematic track.
Others sound like wide-open space and are perfect for atmospheric soundscapes.
The whole thing blends analogue, digital, and organic sounds really well; it’s like a modern take on classic Vangelis themes.
My favourite presets so far are Light Circle, Searching for Clouds, and Transit Echo Piano.
It’s a nonstarter if you don’t already have Omnisphere 3, but if you do, Luftrum and Tom Wolfe are a very safe bet.
I like the collaboration aspect of the Symbiotic series; bringing together sound designers from different backgrounds, with different ideas and techniques, can lead to pure magic.
