Almudio has released version 2.0.3 of 3D Panner, adding AAX support and a standalone application to the binaural spatial audio tool for macOS and Windows.

We featured 3D Panner during its free early-access period in July. It reached around 5,000 active users in its first month, and Almudio has since released five updates based on community feedback.
The plugin places mono or stereo sources around the listener using binaural HRTF processing. You drag a sphere around a head on the XY display to set the direction and distance, then adjust elevation for placement above or below the listener.
You can choose from 20 measured HRTF heads, which is important because we all perceive binaural positioning a little differently. Of course, headphones are required to hear the intended three-dimensional effect.
One of the most interesting features for me, especially as a sound designer, is Frequency Split. It now divides a source into up to eight bands, and you can position each one independently. That makes it possible to keep the low end centered while sending upper frequencies around the listener, with a limiter available on every band.
The motion section provides eight LFO shapes, host synchronization, direction and amount controls, plus paths you can draw directly on the XY pad. Random movement now has Jump and Smooth modes, while the more playful Pendulum and zero-gravity options create movement that would be tedious to automate manually.
The new standalone app completely removes the need for a DAW. It can process live microphone input or an audio file, monitor the result in 3D, and record the processed output to WAV, which should be useful for ASMR, podcasts, meditation audio, sound design, and music production.
3D Panner started with Almog Harari’s final-year BIMM Manchester research project inspired by Steve Reich’s Pendulum Music. The original installation used a binaural head surrounded by speakers; the plugin turns that room-sized experiment into something producers can use on ordinary headphones.
An Almudio account is required to purchase and download the installer. The license works on two computers and requires an internet connection for initial activation; after that, the software works offline. Updates can now be installed from inside the plugin.
3D Panner 2.0.3 is available in VST3, AU, and AAX formats, plus standalone software, for macOS 11 or newer and 64-bit Windows 10 or 11. Almudio recommends at least 8 GB of RAM and around 1 GB of free storage for the approximately 950 MB HRTF dataset. The macOS build is Apple-notarized, while the Windows and AAX builds are signed.
