Lostin70s has released Devil’s Tube Spring, a freeware convolution-based spring reverb effect in VST plugin format for Windows.
Devil’s Tube Spring is a simple low delay Spring Reverb based on convolution. There is a choice between two spring types (one with 2 springs and one with 3 springs and a clearer timbre).
Devil’s Tube Spring is available for free download via Lostin70s (4.6MB download size, 32-bit and 64-bit Windows VST plugin format).
I love the sound of these guitar amp style spring reverbs and Devil’s Tube Spring seems like it could be a great tool for getting that sort of sound in-the-box. Unfortunately, I couldn’t get the GUI to show inside MuLab during my quick test, and the CPU hit was pretty high. I’ll do another test on my main DAW computer later today.
If you’re also a fan of spring reverbs, grab Fokke van Saane’s impulse response collection, as there are some pretty cool spring reverb IRs inside.

onTried to download this and Norton Anti-virus says it’s an unsafe file. Anyone else run into this?

onwell, i’ve often heard reports of Norton identifying clean VST plugins as unsafe files (probably because they are distributed as DLL files). now, i can’t guarantee that Devil’s Tube Spring is clean, but it didn’t install any malware on my machine.
unfortunately, it didn’t work in my DAW either. :)

onDoes anyone know where to place this in the fx chain? I have a guitar amp simulator and then the cabinet with impulse responses. Should I place the spring reverb after the amp or before the amp? I wouldn’t think it would go after the cabinet.
