Samulis Augustus Releases A Free Fretless Zither VSTi Plugin

8

Samulis Augustus has released Zither, a free sample based fretless zither instrument in VSTi plugin format for Windows.

Hey guys! I sampled a fretless zither (say what?) and made a basic VST out of it!

Zither is available for free download via Newgrounds (106.4MB download size, 32-bit & 64-bit VSTi plugin format for Windows).

The plugin is based on audio samples of a fretless zither. It is a guitar-like string instrument which was patented in 1894 by Fred Menzenhauer.

The virtual instrument was created with MakeMusic Finale with just a little bit of artificial reverb added.

  1. “The virtual instrument was created with Adobe Finale with just a little bit of artificial reverb added.”

What is Adobe Finale? Does that exist? Never heard of it.

  2. Hey guys, let me know if you have technical issues or feedback with the Zither at my e-mail ([email protected]). I’m also considering putting out an updated version in the future with better and more useful controls…

LAGinz, I can send you an alternate download if you can provide me with an e-mail.

Maybe- make sure you drag the VST file (.dll) AND the folder with the other file into the same directory, and make sure that it’s a directory that your DAW “looks in”. Unfortunately I can’t help much more than that… I know it works in Sonar and Finale.

Also, just a quick fix and comment to the blog- the plugin was made in a program called Maize Sampler, finale is the program in which I created the demo audio, and thanks a ton for sharing this!

    • Very nice sounds, but 32 bit version is NOT recognized in 32 bit Studio One Pro. The 64 bit version, however, IS recognized in 64 bit Studio One Pro. BTW, tried downloading adware and non-adware 32 bit versions and neither worked.

      • A quick update… I checked the zither files and (oh noes!) found that I had by accident bundled the 64-bit plugin AS the 32-bit plugin when I created the .rar files. The issue has been fixed and the new version can now be found on my website/Newgrounds at the exact same address as before and should work as advertised. Sorry ’bout that!
