Varazuvi has released Varazuvi Bongos, a free high quality sample-based bongos virtual instrument in VSTi plugin format for Windows.

Varazuvi Bongos™ is a 24 bit virtual instrument plugin designed to be used with your existing DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) and host software. It features real recordings of the bongo drum captured in high resolution 24 bit – 48khz sample rates for a fuller and more dynamic experience.

Varazuvi Bongos is available for free download via Varazuvi (6.89 MB download size, 32-bit & 64-bit VSTi plugin format for Windows).

The instrument is based on 24-bit samples of a bongo drum. There are 38 different hits in total. The interface gives the user control over the volume envelope, as well as the overall output volume. Varazuvi Bongos also features a built-in reverb.

While I enjoy using instruments in VSTi plugin format myself, I’d prefer getting a folder with WAV files and sample mappings in this case. It’s a lot more fun to play around with audio samples, especially when it comes to percussion. Still, it’s a good freebie and it will definitely be a good addition to my ethnic percussion sound palette!
