KVR Developer Challenge 2014 Is Live! Have You Tested Any Of The Entries?

KVR DC14 by KVR Audio.KVR Audio has launched KVR DC14, this year’s edition of the annual contest featuring dozens of free virtual instruments and effects created by talented developers from around the world.

You’ll find the 37 entries for KVRDC14! 29 run on Windows, 9 on Mac OS X, 1 on Linux, 1 on iOS and 6 are Soundware for other products. Thank you and congratulations to all developers for getting your entries in.

There are 37 entries in total this year, submitted by talented developers such as Vladislav Goncharov (creator of Limiter6 which is my favorite limiter plugin ever), xoxos (superstar freeware developer from back in the day), WOK (creator of the awesome One Trick Pony series) and VST Zone (makers of the brilliant Amplio 2 multi-band effect), among others.

Sadly, I didn’t have enough free time to prepare an entry for this year’s contest. Last year I’ve entered the contest in tandem with Rhythmic Robot, who have also submitted an entry this year (a cool 8-bit synthesizer called NanoMod 7). If you’re interested, you can still download our joint project from last year called Commodore 64 Synthesizer Sessions DELUXE.

I’ll be putting these entries to test next week and I’ll feature some of my favorites on BPB in separate articles. So, loads of freebie testing fun ahead!

Dear readers, you are also welcome to post your opinions about the entries in the comments section below. If you’re interested, you could also send me reviews using the contact form and I’ll feature them on the site. Really looking forward to hearing what you think about this year’s entries!

The voting on the contest page linked below ends on August 24th, which is exactly three weeks from now. The winners will be announced on August 25th.

Have fun testing the freebies and let me know which ones are your favorites!

  1. Emissary is my favorite, Ignite amps have done a wonderful job with their freebies and they would really deserve the visit at A3E. Also Nova-67p seems useful for very extreme mixing situations. Guitar Gadgets has some funny stuff inside, but only time will tell if they are of any use in real music making.

  2. I am on mac os x and nova is my new favourite mastering eq and multiband compressor in one :-)
But that chorus is also super…

  3. Yes, Emissary is going to kick it this year ;)
First time i feel an amp being on par with my fav : LE456 and Legion from LePou.

I feel it is better than anything paid can do, even last Revalver or Amplitube last amps.
They are good. But it is better :D

  4. Hello.
I’ve just spent the whole evening testing the new “Emissary” by Ignite Amps using a few impulses (only the dirty channel)‚ and it’s been a real joy‚ and what a classy interface it has!

Listening to all the demos, the Strum sounds the most interesting, especially for bass (who needs a bass player anyway right?)

  6. I haven’t checked all of the plugins yet but Nova-67P looks like the winner for me and went straight into my plugins folder – I’ll definitely use it a lot (also liked the GUI). Guitar Gadgets is a lot of fun and and probably my second choice. ToneCarver’s looper looks awesome too, there are not many loopers in the VST plugins world so I’ll probably vote for it too.

From the soundware category, the Rhythmic Robot’s synth looks great but since I don’t own Kontakt I couldn’t test it :( I did like the ADD-1 Drums by beatZ, a small pack but with great samples… The other soundware this time wasn’t my thing…
