Bryan Lake (aka Sound Author) has announced the release of a free patch collection for the timeless Synth1 virtual analogue synthesizer by Ichiro Toda.
His work on the library started two years ago and different patches accumulated over time, resulting in this beautiful set of atmospheric sounds. The main focus is on dreamy pad sounds, however the library also includes some leads, organs, bells, etc.
My favorite part of the collection is the Air Pad patch, a beautiful airy pad sound with a hint of female choir character. That’s just one patch among many great sounds, though. You should definitely check out the rest of the sound bank if you’re a Synth1 user, since you’ll probably find several other patches which you’ll enjoy using. Some of my other personal favorites are the Top Gun Bells patch and the beautiful Unisaw vintage string patch.
If you haven’t tried Synth1 before, you can download the latest version of the instrument via Ichiro Toda’s website. To install the sound bank, simply copy the downloaded ZIP archive into the “zipbank” folder in the Synth1 installation folder. There’s no need to extract the files and the sound bank will show up under External sound banks in the patch browser.
On a related note, Sound Author has also updated the Big Pappa virtual instrument for NI Reaktor. This interesting unison synthesizer now includes a “randomize” feature which adds slight phase variation between each of the eight sine wave oscillators.
