GK Amplification 2 LE, the lightweight version of Audified’s premium GK Amplification 2 Pro virtual bass guitar amplifier for PC and Mac, is now offered as a pay what you want download with optional free checkout.
Free virtual bass guitar amplifiers are still somewhat of a rarity on the plugin market, so it’s always interesting to try out new items of this type. Audified’s GK Amplification 2 LE is actually a pay what you want product, meaning that you can choose to download it for free, or enter any other price you may find suitable before adding it to your shopping cart. After completing the checkout procedure, you will receive a serial number which should be entered when downloading your copy of the installer, as well as during the installation process.
See also: Free MultiCabinet & MultiDrive VST Plugins By Audified!The full version of GK Amplification 2 (priced at $79) features a wider range of Gallien Krueger bass amplifier emulations, as opposed to the freely downloadable LE version which only includes the Gallien Krueger MB150 amp/cab combination and the Audix D6 microphone. Apart from the reduced number of available gear models, the functionality and features of Pro and LE versions are the same. The user can control the position and the angle of the virtual microphone, as well as its relative distance to the virtual cabinet. Also available are EQ and gain boost controls, along with a limiter circuit which prevents clipping on the output.
The plugin itself is well designed and I was pleasantly surprised by the actual sound of the bass amp emulation. Although I’m not in the position to compare GK Amplification 2 LE to a real Gallien Krueger MB150 amplifier, I was quite happy with the effect it had on some DI bass guitar samples I ran through the virtual amp. Of course, it will take a real bass guitar and a skilled bassist to determine how GK Amplification 2 LE compares to the real thing.
Audified’s GK Amplification 2 LE is available as a VST/AU/AAX plugin for Windows and PC based digital audio workstations. It will also work in standalone, which is handy for quick practice sessions, as well as live use on stage.
