Bitsonic Releases Free WT-01 Wavetable Synthesizer (Beta)

6

Bitsonic has introduced the free beta version of WT-01 RED, a forthcoming virtual wavetable synthesizer for Windows (standalone application).

Before you continue reading, please note that this is not a VST plugin. WT-01 RED is a standalone application for Windows. At the moment, there is no information on whether or not the instrument will be ported to VST plugin format, nor if it will be a commercial or freeware product.

WT-01 RED is a surprisingly capable and fun to use synthesizer. The user interface looks intimidating at first, however it becomes fairly easy to program after a while. The ability to zoom in to 200% definitely helps on smaller screens, as some of the controls are almost too tiny by default. Being a standalone application, WT-01 RED won’t run in your DAW, but you can hook it up to any MIDI source and even use your computer keyboard to play it, which is a great way to have some geeky synth fun when you don’t have access to anything else but your laptop. Keyboard split is also supported.

The instrument has too many features to list in a news article, but some of its highlights are the dual section architecture (you get two completely independent sections which can be layered and mixed together), the wavetable editor and the ability to load custom wavetables, the excellent arpeggiator which can be used to play two sequences simultaneously (one per section), and the rather large selection of built-in effects. The fact that WT-01 RED comes with a set of 210 factory presets is also great news.

Finally, a couple of notes about the installation procedure. You can download the installer completely free of charge from the developer’s website (no signup required). The installer will extract the instrument components to your hard drive, however it is not possible to set a custom installation path. When you run the app for the first time, you will be prompted to enter your email address, presumably in order to sign up to Bitsonic’s mailing list.

UPDATE: The synth has now been officially released. It turns out that the price for the full version $99, whereas the free version is no longer available for download.

WT-01 RED is now priced at $99 (only the beta version was free for a limited time).

  1. Is a nice (not) plugin. @ the manual found inside the (not settable) installation path: “BITSONIC WT-01 RED VST – The WT-01 RED is a virtual analog synthesizer that brings a new twist to vst softwares.” Its a beta, so let’s presume there will be a vsti version to that.

  2. I don’t think it will be free yet…look at the download link…”trial” ………….bitsonic.eu/download/trial/Bit ………..

  3. This is really nifty, sounds great, and the wavetable editor is very cool. Just use vbcable to wire it into your DAW.
