I’ve used IK Multimedia’s Amplitube software for about five years now. Some of the stock presets that are absolute gold, my favorite being the one called “Blues and More” which works for almost any genre. So when I found out they are giving away a bundle for free, I got pretty excited. The British Invasion Bundle retails at about 60 bucks, but this week there is no charge, you just need to download and register the newest version of the desktop software to grab the deal.

There are five different amp/cab/pedal combos each with a dialed-in preset of Clean, Crunch, Hard Rhythm, Lead, and Pushed. The different rigs range between thick fuzzy tones and more straight ahead tube overdrive, but they all embody that warm vintage sound of classic British bands. I particularly like the Clean settings which still have a pleasing amount of grit and dirt on them. I experimented with adding a tape emulator plug-in after Amplitube to add a touch of wobble/flutter. Sounds pretty authentic!
One thing I would have liked to see included is some effected presets that emulate tape delay, plate reverb, and other favorite effects of that era. However, it’s not difficult to use these as a starting point to create some whacked out guitar tones. You can also select the individual pieces of gear such as the amp, cabinet, or pedals when building your own custom rig from scratch.
INSTRUCTIONS: To download your free copy of the AmpliTube British Invasion Bundle, you will need to register, authorize and install AmpliTube Custom Shop. Once installed, launch Custom Shop on your computer and click Restore My Gear in the Gear menu.
