ModeAudio’s latest release called Shared Tomorrow continues the label’s focus on the more artistic part of the sound design spectrum. Today we’re taking a closer look at this nostalgic collection of saturated analog samples and downtempo loops while also giving away two copies of the product to two lucky BPB readers. Shared Tomorrow (£18) delivers a cocktail of tastefully oversaturated drum machine hits, wobbly Boards Of Canada style synth pads, modern downtempo beats with a subtle dubstep flavor, trippy shoegaze guitar riffs, cinematic bass drones, and 80s sci-fi show soundtracks sampled from a worn out VHS tape. The content is spread across 160 audio loops and 68 one-shot drum samples, along with 109 MIDI loops (key and tempo labeled), and ModeAudio’s signature reverb tail samples for the synth and guitar loops. Depending on your gear and workflow, you can choose to pick up the library in WAV, REX2, Reason ReFill, and Ableton Live Pack formats.
As most ModeAudio libraries we tested previously (check out our ModeAudio String Theory review for example), browsing Shared Tomorrow almost feels like having the chance to peek into the project files of a talented music producer’s forthcoming album. The loops are there, ready to drop into your DAW’s timeline, but you’re also getting the one-shot samples for layering or building custom loops, as well as the MIDI sequences for reimagining the provided audio loops with your own favorite synths or samples. The originality and style of Shared Tomorrow are miles above the copy/paste genre specific sound libraries that are saturating the market nowadays, offering the experience of collaborating with a fellow artist instead of stacking up the building blocks of a generic electronica track.
Speaking of genres, it’s hard to classify Shared Tomorrow into a specific category, but the style ranges from downtempo hip-hop and urban to synthwave and vintage electronica. The content is neatly sorted into folders by type (drum loops, guitar loops, bass loops, one-shot samples, tail samples, etc.) and labeled with project name and tempo where applicable. The asking price is more than reasonable for the amount of content on offer, which is why we’re recommending this library to any electronica producer seeking inspiration and fresh analog sounds for their new projects.
