Nembrini Audio is giving away their brand new LoFi Vintage Clipper ($79 value) audio effect as a free download for a limited time only.
LoFi Vintage Clipper is a soft clipper and saturation tool available in VST, VST3, AU, and AAX plugin formats for 64-bit host applications on PC and Mac. It features two different algorithms for processing the audio signal on the input. The user can apply variable amounts of soft clipping (which resembles tube distortion) and saturation (which resembles the distortion characteristics of tape recorders and analog consoles). The plugin also features input and output peak meters and the output volume control.
See also: Best FREE Distortion VST Plugins! Thanks to its two distortion modules, LoFi Vintage Clipper can handle a multitude of mixing and mastering tasks. It can be used for subtle saturation of the master bus, enhancing the drum bus, or creating high-gain distortion tones. The interface is very simple, making the plugin easy to operate. Although we’d definitely like to see some additional control parameters (input gain, tone, etc.), having such a streamlined control scheme certainly makes for a faster workflow.
LoFi Vintage Clipper is normally priced at $79 but you can currently obtain an NFR (not for resale) license completely free of charge. The developer didn’t state when the deal will end, so it’s probably best to grab your free license as soon as possible. To do so, simply complete the checkout process on the product page linked below. The license will be registered to your Nembrini Audio user account. You will also receive the download link and your personal license key via email.
Nembrini Audio is a new developer and LoFi Vintage Clipper is currently the only product available on their website. Have you tested the plugin in one of your projects? Let us know what you think about it in the comments section below.
LoFi Vintage Clipper is available for free download via Nembrini Audio (42 MB download size, EXE installer, 64-bit VST/VST3/AU/AAX plugin format for Windows & MacOS).

on“Plugins require an iLok2, iLok3, or iLok cloud for authorization.”
:(
daddy-kun
onIlok required. Not worth it even for free.

onHey guys,
turns out you don’t actually need a physical iLok to use this: after installing the plug, just have your DAW scan for new plugins, and an activation window will pop up. What you do is you input your serial number, log in into your iLok account and it will ask you to open a “cloud session”; just click your way through the following windows (it’s always “yes” of course) and you’re good to go! Apparently, the only limitation is that the license will only be available on one computer, i.e. the one you used to authorize the product, plus you have to be connected to the internet, which is actually only logical come to think of it, since we’re talking cloud here. I know this will be a bummer for many people who prefer to keep their music-computers offline, but nonetheless: no dongle is needed!
Alex
onDoesn’t work for me! To start with I didn’t open the cloud session at first. After reading your comment I tried to reset the plugin blacklist in Studio One and reinstalling the plugin to get the “Open Cloud Session” message again. But I doesn’t recognize the plugin in Studio One anymore. The iLok License Manager is showing the License, but there is no way to activate it without a physical iLok.
I hate iLok from all my heart, and will keep sure to NEVER buy any product which is involved with this company. Same goes for eLicencer, Waves Central and Gobbler. No wonder there is so much piracy going on out there. This, the lack of proper trials, and overpricing are the main reasons for it.

onI had the same issue, in order to get things working again I had to have Reaper clear my plugin cache and rescan all of the plugs anew. Once it detected lofi, it asked again for the authorisation number, but I couldn’t use the same one as before, so I went for “trial” instead and then did the cloud thing – don’t worry, since the license is there, it will be authorised. It’s a bit of a pain, I know, but it works. Haven’t tested the plug too much yet but from a first quick spin O:d have to say it is probably worth the hussle!
Alex
onThanks for trying to help with the issue. I was able to open a Cloud Session from the iLok License Manager. In Reaper the plugin is working without any issues. But I’m on Studio One and it simply won’t rescan the plugin. I tried to reset the blacklist and scan directories multiple times with no luck so far. Still waiting for an answer from the developer.
Alex
onThe plugin was updated yesterday and is working inside Studio One now. Be sure to get the new installation files from their site.

onEven if you don’t need a dongle, there are still some huge problems with this ILok (aka “I’m locked”) license manager software. Some of the problems were already mentioned:
– Your computer needs to be online every time you want to use an ILok plugin. Offline music computers cannot use I’m-Locked plugins
– the plugin will be registered to the individual computer (machine ID). If for example the hard drive of that machine crashes (which can happen at any given time), you will not be able to unregister your plugins from hat machine and re-authorize it to another computer (or the same computer with a new hard drive)! Your license will be gone forever, unless the developer of the plugin will grant you a new license, which is completely up to their discretion.
– If you want to sell one of your (commercially bought) I’m Locked plugins licenses to another buyer, you need to pay a fee to PACE, the I’m Locked company, for license transfer. I think it’s around 25 $/€ for each license transfer!
See these forum threads to learn more about these issues:

https://www.reddit.com/r/audioengineering/comments/78fvlj/is_ilok_transfer_fee_reasonable_in_your_opinion/
These are reasons enough for me to avoid “I’m Locked” and similar protection rackets as much as I can, even though I own some of the great Soundtoys plugins, that use the ILok license manager. At least Soundtoys is a reliable company and if you lose your license because your hardware dies, they will supply you with another license!

By the way: for a free clipper, that does not use “I’m Locked”, check the free version of LVC Audio’s Clipshifter or Venn Audio’s Free Clip! Both are excellent!
cloud
onits pretty good though, even having to use iLock cloud.
Ian
onUnless somebody will give away gigabytes of orchestral samples, I’m not getting ilok (cloud or not). Certainly not for a clipper. This is silly. One of the best things about free software is that most of the time there’s no hassle. Just drop dll and go. When you’re reinstalling Windows, just copy the folder and it will work. Sadly this is less often nowadays.

onYes so I was also duped into wasting my time and downloading this supposed freebie, when it was featured on another music prod site. Im actually suspicious of what motivates Nembrini to not mention ILOK requirement until one is about to register the plugin. This smacks of ILOK using Nembrini and promises of free software as a way to enrol more dupes in to ILOK.
I refuse to use it, and no amount of free software is going to change my mind.
Luis Rivera
onEveryone seems to get the email news after the expiration date???????????
Ruben
onEven if I get paid for their next pluging I would not want it.
Hopefully this is their last.
Michael Morris
onYes I doubt they are a serious audio product dev considering what they have done for ILOK. It leaves a really bad taste.

onIs there a way completely remove this plugin from it’s ENTIRETY? It has completely RUINED my Maschine. I don’t want to just deactivate it, I need to erase it from existence on my Macbook.
Mario
onI actually love the Plugin in Studio One 4 . it sounds Amazing on , Drums , bass , Vocals . just a little and the kick is thumpin. I like it better than Sound Toys Devil Loc or Decapitator. it does something special to percussion also like Hi Hats, Shakers….. it feels like Hardware. trust me if you can get it .ITS worth it.
