RebelAudio has released Canister33, a freeware multi-mode distortion effect in VST and VST3 plugin formats for digital audio workstations on Windows.
Canister33 is an innovative distortion effect with a unique signal processing chain. Its developers describe the plugin as a dynamic distortion unit with vocoder-like characteristics. The input signal is passed through a dynamic distortion module, followed by a frequency mixer, and a static distortion module. Each module affects the processed signal differently, changing the spectrum, and adding overtones to create a complex distortion effect.

The tonal character of the available distortion modes ranges from being bitcrusher-like (Pixel Dancer mode) to vocoder-like (Cosmic Interference mode).
The user can fine-tune the effect by utilizing Canister33’s six control parameters. The Frequency parameter adjusts the frequency range, and the Intensity parameter controls the impact of the static distortion effect. The Res N and Res W parameters are used for tuning the resonant frequency of adaptive narrowband and wideband filters. Finally, the Volume and Mix parameters control the output volume and the depth of the distortion effect.
The preset manager is located in the top-right corner of the user interface. It can save up to four custom presets. Simply click one of the four programmable preset buttons to load and edit a saved preset.
Canister33 can be downloaded entirely free of charge from the product page linked below. User registration is not required. Simply extract the downloaded ZIP archive to access the plugin files.
