FXpansion Geist Lite Drum Sampler Is Now FREE!

FXpansion is offering the Geist Lite drum sampling, slicing, and sequencing workstation as a free download for everyone who signs up on the company’s website.

Geist Lite is the feature-limited edition of the now discontinued Geist plugin (replaced by the more recent Geist2 software). It lacks various features that were offered in the full version of Geist. However, it is incredibly powerful for a freeware plugin, and it is one of the best free drum samples on the market.

At its core, Geist Lite is a drum sampler plugin with loop slicing and drum sequencing capabilities. The software can load third-party samples and loops in all standard formats (WAV, AIFF, REX, etc.). It features an advanced drum sequencing engine, a virtual mixer with several built-in effects, intuitive loop slicing, time-stretching, and more. It is possible to apply up to six effects to each drum pad and create up to sixteen scenes with twelve sequencer patterns.

The free Geist Lite lacks some important features, though. It doesn’t support multi-channel output (only one stereo output is available), the polyphony is reduced to sixteen voices (64 in the full version), MIDI learn and host automation capabilities are limited to four slots, and the song mode is disabled. That said, Geist Lite remains an incredibly versatile drum sampling and sequencing plugin with an intuitive, performance-oriented workflow. The only aspect where Geist Lite shows its age is the UI size. The plugin is still large enough for use on HD screens, but it might be hard to see the finer details on a 4K monitor.
