ModeAudio is offering a set of free sounds for BPB readers taken from their IDM-inspired Symbolism sample pack.

Symbolism is a collection of royalty-free loops, MIDI, and drum samples taking inspiration from the legendary UK label Warp Records, particularly from artists like Aphex Twin, Autechre, and Boards Of Canada.

As a huge fan of IDM (which stands for Intelligent Dance Music) and Warp Records, this is a welcomed addition.

Whatever genre you produce, you should explore this type of music since it has been at the forefront of electronic music for years, pushing the boundaries with sonic novelty and fresh intuitions.

The Symbolism sample pack focuses on hypnotic and warped analog synths, woozy downtempo ambiances, thumping and elaborate drum patterns, Lo-Fi guitar licks, and weird textures.

So they may be the perfect fit for Ambient, Downtempo, and Lo-Fi productions, as it’s usually for ModeAudio’s aesthetics of products.

The collection is 538MB in digital weight, divided into drum samples, MIDI, music loops, and tail samples.

The latter category is interesting since it presents just the tails of the sounds found elsewhere in the pack, in case you want to use them as one-shots.

The samples feature the names of the kits they belong to, so you can instantly know which were intended to be part of the same musical idea. However, that doesn’t mean you have to stick to that. Instead, You should experiment and try blending the sounds that inspire you as you like.

The musical loops are BPM and key-labeled for ease of use, and typically, they fit into the range of Downtempo territory of 74 BPM up to 104 BPM.

All the sounds are already processed for instant access, but unfortunately, there are no dry versions.

The MIDI parts allow you to deconstruct the harmonic, melodic, and rhythmic content heard in the audio loops. Don’t expect to find unforgettable melodies or irresistible grooves, but those can be useful if you need an initial sketch idea.

The music loops are divided into thematic folders of Basses, Drums and Percussion, Instruments, Synths and Pads, and Textures. They can add a touch of live organic element to your digital beats since they present a peculiar vintage charm.

Overall, Symbolism isn’t a comprehensive and vast overview of the IDM world but features a good taste of its artistic vision.
