You’ve most likely heard the sound of a Rhodes piano on your favorite records. It’s used all over rock, pop, and beyond.
While this legendary instrument was originally produced by Fender, it grew so popular that Rhodes eventually became an independent company.
These days, you can get an authentic emulation of the Rhodes piano, which was created by Rhodes.
It is sold as Rhodes V8, which makes it the 8th iteration of this classic instrument.
They also sell the FX module of this plugin separately, which contains a preamp, EQ, compressor, time-based FX, and Vari-Pan.
We’ll focus on that today.
V-Pan is sold separately for $38 at the regular price, but for a limited time, you can grab it for free on Audio Plugin Deals.

V-Pan is an important part of the Rhodes sound; it helps create the stereo field movement that we all know and love from this instrument.
The panning position is modulated via an LFO, which in some settings can sound similar to a Leslie speaker, but not with that sort of gritty quality.
You can dial in the rate and depth of the LFO however you like, with the option to tempo sync the rate.
The shape of the LFO can be sawtooth, triangle, sine, square, or even a subtle blend of two of these.

Finally, if you find that the stereo movement is a bit stiff, you can use the “smooth” and “slew” controls to smooth it out.
Overall, the plugin is fairly straightforward and easy to use. Even though it uses the Vari-pan circuit from the Rhodes piano, you can use this plugin on any instrument. Guitars, synths, drums, vocals, or anything, really.
It can add movement to your tracks with a simple LFO that’s packaged in a sleek GUI.
One thing I will say about Rhodes plugins is that their licensing software seems to consistently run in the background.
It does not take away from the fantastic sounds of the plugins, but it is something to keep in mind.
V-Pan runs on Windows and macOS devices in VST2, VST3, AU, and AAX formats.
