DNX has released Shine Reverb, a FREE highly customizable reverb plugin for macOS and Windows.
Do Not Cross (DNX) is a developer offering VST plugins, sample packs, sound kits, drum kits, and more.
Shine Reverb is the second VST plugin release from DNX; the first was Proton, a multi-FX guitar pedal. More importantly, Shine Reverb is the first free VST from DNX, and it’s one for keen sound designers.
Don’t forget to pick up Ujam’s UFX Reverb while it’s free, too (the offer ends on October 31st, 2024).
Like most reverb plugins, Shine Reverb can be pretty subtle, but subtlety isn’t its strong point; it’s not a go-to reverb if you just want to help something sit well in a mix.
Shine Reverb excels at creating unique soundscapes, ranging from lush and ethereal to gritty and distorted.
At the risk of sounding easily impressed without getting into anything too complex, I love a reverb that creates a bed under sparse guitar/keys playing.
It has to be interesting with a little movement and create a little tension when lingering notes crossover without becoming too muddy or dissonant. Shine Reverb does that very well.
Shine Reverb features eight controls to help shape your sound. The first two controls, Shine and Size, control the mix and size of the plate reverb effect.
The following controls, Jitter, Damp, Fuse, and Decay, allow you to add movement and texture. Once you start stacking these modifiers, you can create complex soundscapes that can provide ambient content or more harmonically driven accompaniment.
Shine Reverb also has Lo Cut and Hi Cut filters to shape the reverb and prevent certain areas from running wild.
In addition to the ability to craft your own reverb from scratch, Shine Reverb comes with some factory presets that showcase the versatility of the plugin.
It’s always interesting to see plugins take a more creative approach to reverb, and we’ve had a few in recent months. Earlier this year, we had Witch Pig’s Black Mirror and Borealis-LE from MNTRA Instruments.
Shine Reverb is available in VST2 and VST3 formats for macOS and Windows.

onI’m shocked that no one else has commented on this plugin yet. This reverb sounds incredible. I can’t believe it’s free. So lushhhhh…

onThis plugin has an issue. When you put it on a send track and set the shine to 100, that’s supposed to be 100% wet but it still let the dry signal through when you solo only the send track, making the whole mix overly loud. All my reverb plugins at 100 wet don’t let any dry signal through. The developer has to fix that asap, it sounds great though.

onYou’re right, but that’s not the only pedal plugin that works that way. I don’t think it’s ever been intended to be used as a send effect, so I wouldn’t hold my breath. It would be great, tho.

onOption paralysis once again! New 2024 reverbs & saturations galore!
Dear Tomislav & Team, just letting you know that I personally depend heavily on your “Top Free Plugins of the Year” lists, not having the time or energy to try out every new release myself. So if any new reverb is truly good, I’m counting on you guys to eventually add it into your “Top Free Reverbs” list! :P
(As an aside, it might be good to “cull” the crowded lists from time to time, remove older entries that might have been surpassed via features or sound quality, etc., or perhaps just shift them over into an “Oldie but Still Goodie” category further below the page. :D)

onDarryl, you can count on us! :) I’m working on improving the old plugin lists and this year’s “best of” article will be epic. Thank you for your support!

onMight be an idea to get blog followers to vote on plugins? just a thought …
