Hybrid Filter is designed to be a versatile tool for music producers, sound designers, and even mix engineers.
It is actually a standalone version of the filter found in Minimal Audio’s Current synthesizer, which is becoming increasingly popular with music producers.
Hybrid Filter contains an impressive 50+ different filter types all in one plugin. You’ll find anything from morphing filters to formant and comb filters, phasers, and many more to transform your audio.
The morphing filters are very intriguing because they allow for very smooth transitioning through different EQ curves.
To achieve the same effect manually, you would probably need a ridiculous amount of envelopes, but the “Morph” knob makes it very easy and fun.
Hybrid Filter features integrated modulation, including an LFO and envelope follower. This is great because, unlike Ableton Live, most DAWs don’t have modulation capabilities like that built-in.
Another great feature it has is called “Low Crossover”. Sometimes when you go crazy with filters, the low end can start clipping and cause problems.
However, the Low Crossover feature can soften the filter’s effect as it gets close to the low end, so your bass frequencies stay intact. You can also choose to mono the lows if you like.
This plugin has another interesting feature called Amp Modulation, which essentially adds harmonics and textures to the source material.
You can actually use the cutoff in the “tune” mode together with amp mod, to create very unique tones.
Hybrid Filter also has features like a stereo spread, a soft-clipping limiter, a handy frequency graph, and in-app tooltips.
