Visu is the latest addition to Tritik’s impressive collection, and it’s available to download for free for macOS and Windows.
Tritik is the developer behind free plugins like Krush (bit crusher) and Tymee (delay), as well as some excellent paid plugins, including Flaw (lo-fi effect).
Although free, Visu has a pay-what-feels-right option.
Whether you download Visu for free or pay what you can to support Tritik’s work, the plugin remains fully functional. If you download Visu for free, the Spectrogram will run only in black and white; paying for Visu unlocks various color modes.
Visu is an advanced spectrogram plugin that visualizes frequency content over time for deep audio analysis.
In addition to a Classic spectrogram mode, Visu features an Enhanced mode that utilizes time-frequency reassignment. The Enhanced mode provides a more detailed image with sharper transients and clearer pitches.
An advanced spectrogram plugin has numerous applications, including analyzing frequency content for mixing and mastering, isolating problem areas that lead to unwanted noise, or performing full-blown audio restoration.
Visu has three views: Standard, Settings, and Full.
In the Standard view, you’ll see a sidebar with a settings cog, a Freeze icon, and an Export button. If you click the settings cog, you’ll enter the Settings view with an expanded sidebar enabling you to change the plugin mode, FFT size, and display modes, and purchase a license to access colors.
Adjusting the FFT size determines how many samples Visu uses for each frequency analysis.
There are pros and cons when choosing a smaller or larger FFT size. A smaller FFT size provides greater temporal precision but coarser frequency resolution. Increasing the FFT size will create greater frequency resolution with reduced temporal precision.
In Static Mode, the spectrogram loops over itself without scrolling; in Scroll Mode, the spectrogram continues from left to right without looping.
You can also adjust the Floor gain, which determines the amplitude threshold where audio signals become visible (or more visible)
High-resolution screens will have access to HiDPI Mode for crisper visuals.
The Freeze icon pauses the spectrogram, and the Export button allows you to export the current spectrogram as a PNG image (only when the spectrogram is frozen).
If you decide to purchase a license after trying Visu for free, you’ll get access to over 40 color maps.
Visu is available in AU, VST3, and AAX formats for macOS (10.15 and higher) and Windows (10/11).
