Get the UVI HX-ODDY sample-based ARP Odyssey emulation for $19

Plugin Boutique offers the UVI HX-ODDY, a hybrid virtual instrument based on the classic ARP Odyssey Mk1, for just $19 (75% off) until September 22.

HX-ODDY is part of UVI’s HX Series, which blends deep multi-sampling with physically-modeled synthesis.

This time, the team focused on the white-face Odyssey Mk1. It is ARP’s original duophonic analog synth from 1972.

As expected from UVI (who are among my favorite creators of sample-based emulations), the result is a super flexible sound design tool that captures the original synthesizer’s tone while expanding far beyond its capabilities.

HX-ODDY runs on a three-layer engine. You get two hardware-based wavetable oscillators and one sample-based layer, sourced from over 13,000 samples across 181 layers.

You can blend or solo these layers and shape them independently using ADSR envelopes, stereo unison, FM, phase distortion, and a modeled ARP 4023 filter.

The sound library includes over 280 presets, covering everything from classic Odyssey bass and lead patches to more experimental textures and sequences. There’s even a dedicated “Patch Book” category that recreates patches from the original ARP factory manual.

This is a fun add-on, but also useful if you want a more historically accurate starting point or if you want to recreate those same old patches for some reason.

While the Odyssey was famously duophonic, HX-ODDY is fully polyphonic, giving you access to lush pads and stacked sounds not possible on the hardware.

This polyphony is especially welcome because we get a built-in arpeggiator/phraser, which includes step sequencing, modulation, and per-step pitch/octave/gate settings.

You can push the oscillator engine well beyond typical Odyssey emulations, thanks to features like phase distortion types (e.g., “fuzzy” and “formant”), stereo spread, and the ability to run oscillators and samples separately or together.

The FX section includes five macro effects on the main page (Tone, Phase, Crush, Echo Shifter, Cloud), plus more detailed controls under the FX tab (drive, reverb, delay, flanger, EQ, maximizer).

I love how UVI adds all of these hands-on tools that make it super easy to morph the patches without diving deep into modulation routing. It’s a sample-based instrument but really feels like a proper synth.

HX-ODDY runs in the free UVI Workstation 3.1.15+ or Falcon 3.0.3+, and requires an iLok account (no dongle needed). It supports macOS 10.14–15 and Windows 10–11, and is available in VST, VST3, AU, AAX, and standalone formats.
