schulz.audio offers the JUNI 1984 Chorus, a lush analog-style chorus plugin for macOS and Windows, for free until Sunday, November 23rd.
If this concept feels familiar, it’s because we literally covered Sonic Academy’s JU-60 a couple of days ago, and the similarities are hard to miss.
Both plugins aim for the iconic Juno-60 chorus sound, and even the two GUIs land in the same 3D style territory.
But after spending some time with JUNI 1984, I can say it’s the more advanced and tweak-friendly of the two. If you love the classic Juno swirl but want more control over the tone and modulation behavior, this one is absolutely worth grabbing while it’s free.
JUNI 1984 models the bucket-brigade delay circuitry behind the famous Juno chorus, but the plugin doesn’t lock you into the classic “button I / button II” limitations. Instead, you can dive into every parameter that was fixed on the original hardware (rate, depth, character shaping, and more) and create variations that simply weren’t possible with the original.
That extra flexibility makes it useful far beyond the typical dreamy pads and wide synth leads; I found it particularly good on guitars and even basses when set subtly.
schulz.audio has also put some thought into the workflow. Hovering over sliders brings up an instant LCD-style readout, animations help you keep track of changed parameters when browsing presets, and the entire interface is fully resizable.
The preset browser lets you dive into categories or just flip through presets using the simple next/previous controls. The audio demos on the product page show how the plugin handles synth arps, chords, guitars, and basses, with clear A/B comparisons between dry, analog-style, and JUNI-processed versions.
Normally priced at €69, JUNI 1984 Chorus is completely free through Sunday, and you can download it directly from schulz.audio, then complete the registration to activate the plugin.
JUNI 1984 is available in VST2, VST3, AAX, and AU formats. It supports both 32-bit and 64-bit systems on Windows, and native/Intel 64-bit macOS support (including M1 systems). All major DAWs are supported, and the developer recommends using the free trial first if you’re unsure about compatibility.
If you’re into chorus plugins (and to be honest, I tend to hoard them) don’t miss this one while it’s free.
