Canvas Audio has released 8K, a new console-inspired saturation and EQ plugin, and it’s available for free for a very limited time.
The developer Canvas Audio announced this freebie a few days ago and invited interested users to sign up in advance. The plugin is now officially out, meaning you can grab it right away. Just keep in mind that the free offer only lasts for 48 hours.
After that, 8K reverts to its regular price of $29.
8K is built around a fixed 8 kHz high-shelf EQ band, paired with console-style saturation. You can use it to add presence and bite in a very specific frequency range that has been used on countless rock and pop records over the last few decades.
The central GAIN control adjusts the amount of boost applied to the 8 kHz shelf. It’s joined by separate Input and Output gain knobs so you can drive the modeled input stage harder or keep levels consistent after processing.
There’s also a V1 / V2 variant switch, which changes the underlying console character. Both variants apply the same fixed-frequency EQ, but the saturation and overall tone respond slightly differently, giving you two flavors of top-end enhancement.
You also get input/output linking, which is useful if you want to maintain (at least approximately) constant volume while experimenting with drive levels. The Mix control lets you blend the processed signal with the dry signal for parallel-style processing.
The plugin also runs with 4x oversampling to reduce aliasing, and it includes a preset manager so you can save and recall your favorite settings or start from factory presets.
Canvas Audio advertises 8K as more than just an EQ, and that comes through in how the saturation reacts when you push the input. You can use it subtly as a presence lift or lean into the saturation for a more obvious tonal shift.
