Temecula DSP has released the SST-206, a digital recreation of the legendary Space Station reverb, available for macOS and Windows.

Now, let’s take a closer look at what the SST-206 brings to your DAW.
SST-206 recreates the sound and architecture of the original 1978 Space Station (SST-282) and the later SST-206 hardware revision from the early 2000s.
Instead of following the conventional digital reverb approach based on diffusion networks or convolution, the Space Station uses a multi-tap delay system with modulated feedback.
The plugin uses a circular delay buffer with two independent tap systems. The first consists of eight fixed “audition” taps that shape the stereo output you hear. The second uses fifteen modulated taps in the feedback path.
These modulated taps constantly shift in complementary pairs, increasing echo density while minimizing pitch artifacts and metallic ringing.
It all sounds a bit complicated, but I love how this actually results in an incredibly lush reverb that feels spacious and clear at the same time.
The plugin includes five programs: SST Echo, SST Reverb, Echo Plus, Reverb Plus, and Room. The original modes replicate the 7kHz bandwidth and character of the 1978 unit, complete with its slightly gritty texture.
The Plus modes extend the bandwidth to 22kHz, increase delay time (up to 670ms), and allow for longer, even indefinite decay in Echo Plus mode.
One of the plugin-only additions is DAW tempo sync for the echo modes. When engaged, delay times lock to your project tempo, with selectable note divisions and straight, dotted, or triplet modifiers.
The Room program is a separate true stereo FDN reverb with adjustable size, pre-delay, early reflection level, and decay times extending well beyond 100 seconds.
You can use the SST-206 on an aux bus for classic send-style processing or directly on a track as an insert. The demo version outputs brief silence every 30 seconds and doesn’t allow preset saving; purchasing a license for $50 unlocks the full version.
The SST-206 is available in VST3, AU, and AAX formats for macOS and Windows.
