CapybaraSoftware has made CapySynth permanently free after the response to last week’s BPB coverage.
We first covered CapySynth last Saturday when it was free for 24 hours. The developer later emailed to say the support from BPB readers was overwhelmingly positive, with over 5,000 downloads, and that it changed his mind about the pricing.
So, good news if you missed the short promo. CapySynth is now free forever, with no account needed and no subscription.
Here’s the developer’s message:
A few days ago, you featured my synthesizer CapySynth after I made it free for 24 hours, expecting maybe a few downloads.
In reality, it got over 5K downloads and tons of support messages and feedback on stuff people wanted in the synth. Since then, I have been working around the clock to release a massive update to CapySynth.
It would be super cool if you told your readers that, because of you guys, I have made CapySynth FREE forever due to the amount of positive and fun support.
And that is the most wonderful thing I’ve heard all week, because BPB readers supporting developers is what our community is all about. Thank you for being awesome!
By the way, in case you missed it, what instantly won me over the first time was the pixel art interface. It has a tropical sunset, a beach, and an animated capybara walking around, which is a pretty strong argument before you even press a key.
Thankfully, CapySynth also sounds pretty cool. It is made for lo-fi, house, synthwave, and cozy beat-making, with 329 presets covering basses, leads, pads, keys, chords, arps, and FX.

The synth has dual oscillators, 12 wave shapes, wavetable morphing, Mix, Ring, and FM oscillator modes, plus a state-variable filter with low-pass, high-pass, band-pass, and notch modes. You also get 16-voice polyphony, unison up to 16 voices, two LFOs, delay, reverb, chorus, five distortion modes, and a master bitcrusher called Crush It.
The latest v1.1 update adds a few very CapySynth features, including the ability to feed the capybara and make the keyboard bigger. There are also bug fixes and smaller improvements, so it is not just a pricing change.
Capybara Mode is still there, too. It adds sub-octave depth, octave shimmer, and supersaw width to any preset, so a patch gets bigger in one click.
CapySynth is available for macOS and Windows. The macOS version includes VST3, AU, and standalone formats, while the Windows version includes VST3 and standalone formats.
