SoniX Audio has released DRUMFLX, a free drum machine plugin for macOS and Windows.
DRUMFLX is a sample-based instrument built by producer KXVI, whose credits include work with Future, SZA, 21 Savage, and Lil Tjay. It is aimed mainly at hip-hop, trap, R&B, drill, and related styles, although the included processing lets you tweak the drums enough to make them compatible with other electronic music styles.
The plugin has two basic workflows. The Classic One Shot mode gives you a familiar grid of pads that you can play from a MIDI keyboard or controller, while Drum Loop mode turns the same kits into ready-made drum and percussion loops.
That makes DRUMFLX useful not only for finger drumming and jamming but also as a groove source if you don’t want to start from scratch. You can also import your own samples, and SoniX plans to release additional kits to expand the library.
The sound library is divided into Modern, Vintage, and Texture modes, each with a different processing chain. Modern focuses on clean drums and provides Boost, Punch, Analog EQ, Grit, Shine, Tighten, and Noise controls.
Vintage replaces Boost with Drive and leans toward warmer drums with some tape, sampler, and record-style character. Texture takes a more experimental approach with Resample, Instability, Delay, gated reverb, Drive, Shine, and Noise.
I really like how the available controls actually change with the selected mode. This keeps the interface relatively simple while putting the most relevant processing tools for any given mode in front of you.
You can preview the three modes directly in your browser before downloading anything. The product page includes a playable 12-pad version of the instrument, alongside several audio examples for each sound category.
To get DRUMFLX, enter your first name and email address and wait for the download link. There is no checkout, user account, license code, or plugin activation.
However, the current form uses a single required checkbox for both delivery and SoniX Audio promotional emails, even though the FAQ describes marketing as optional, so expect to be added to the mailing list during the process.
DRUMFLX supports VST3 on 64-bit Windows 10 or newer. The macOS version requires macOS 14 Sonoma or newer and is available in VST3 and AU formats for Intel and Apple Silicon Macs.
