Ample Sound has released Ample Guitar M Lite 4, a free acoustic guitar virtual instrument for macOS and Windows.
Free acoustic guitar plugins are hard to find, and Ample Sound’s free Martin D-41 instrument has been one of the best options out there since the early 2010s. We covered Ample Guitar M Lite II back in 2015, and now version 4 brings the freebie onto the new Ample Guitar 4 architecture.
If you are looking for free acoustic guitar sounds for your DAW, this is, in my opinion, the best place to start. The redesigned 5K interface is fantastic, the sounds are great, and even though this is a limited edition of the full Ample Guitar M, it is well worth installing.
AGML4 aims to bring the sound of a Martin D-41 acoustic guitar to your studio. The free version includes an 877 MB 16-bit Fingerstyle library with five articulations: Sustain, Hammer-on and Pull-off, Legato Slide, Palm Mute, and Pop.
It also includes several of the bigger Ample Sound workflow tools, including Riffer 4, Tab Reader 4, the Strummer, and built-in effects. The effects section provides an 8-band EQ, compressor, delay, and convolution reverb.

Riffer 4 is one of the main upgrades. It combines Piano Roll and Guitar Tab views, shows string information directly inside the editor, supports MIDI import and export, and lets you edit fingerings, articulations, legato behavior, CC data, and velocity without building everything through keyswitches.
Tab Reader 4 supports Guitar Pro 3 through Guitar Pro 8 files, while the Strummer offers Select and Detect chord modes, custom chord definitions, Strum SEQ rhythm programming, and MIDI drag-and-drop.
The free version is, unsurprisingly, smaller than the paid Ample Guitar M. The full version is a 7.8 GB, 24-bit library with Fingerstyle, Strum, and Pick libraries, while AGML4 is 877 MB, 16-bit, and limited to Fingerstyle.
The full version also samples every string and fret position individually. AGML4 is sampled by pitch, so the same sample can be shared across different string positions. You also get fewer articulations, since Slide In/Out, Natural Harmonic, and Slide Guitar are reserved for the paid edition.
Still, this is a very generous free acoustic guitar instrument. It requires no Ample Sound account and no software activation, which is always nice to see.
Ample Sound is also offering 25% off the full Ample Guitar M and Ample Bass P from July 31 through August 31, including a special AGM + ABP 2-in-1 bundle.
Ample Guitar M Lite 4 runs on macOS 10.15 or later and Windows 7 through Windows 11, in VST2, VST3, AU, AAX, and standalone formats.
