PSP Audioware has released PSP BBDelay, a new analog-inspired delay and ambience processor for macOS and Windows.
Following last month’s PSP Levelizer release, PSP Audioware describes BBDelay as one of its most ambitious effects projects in recent years. It is inspired by the Dynacord VRS 23, a classic 1980s BBD delay and ambience processor known for its strange echoes, unstable movement, and characterful reverb-like textures.
Alexander Ewald’s video below shows several creative ways to use PSP BBDelay, from dub echoes and slapback to BBD-style reverb, chorus, robot voice effects, and self-oscillating drones.
This plugin doesn’t just recreate an old BBD delay. PSP BBDelay models individual BBD chips, compander behavior, and analog circuit imperfections, then expands the concept with modern tools that make the repeats easier to shape in a mix.
You get Mono, Dual Mono, Ping-Pong, and Reverb modes, with delay times up to 800 ms, or 1600 ms in x2 mode. Delay speed can be controlled in a smooth analog-style way, with optional Time and Tempo Sync modes, plus tap tempo.
The modulation section offers sine, triangle, square, and random waveforms, with multiple sync options. There is also adjustable BBD chip spread for stereo width, and a compander alignment control that moves the sound from cleaner repeats into more imperfect vintage coloration.
The insert section is where it really adds a lot of flexibility you wouldn’t find in a vintage delay. PSP added high-pass, low-pass, and resonant tone shaping inside the feedback path, plus transient control for shaping the attack of each repeat.
There is also a built-in ducker for cleaner delays, an integrated gate for rhythmic effects, analog-style saturation with multiple response curves, and three Dirt modes for progressively stronger circuit character.
The Reverb mode is also worth mentioning. The original VRS 23 was a “virtual reverberation system,” but this is not a natural room reverb in the usual sense. It is more of a dense BBD echo texture, which can be much more interesting if you want ambience that moves, wobbles, and breaks up a little.
PSP BBDelay includes a preset browser with Favorites, A/B comparison, undo/redo, user default presets, and a factory preset library.
PSP BBDelay is available for the introductory price of $69 until August 10th, 2026. The regular price will be $99 after the promotion ends. A 30-day trial is available.
The plugin uses iLok License Manager for authorization, but a hardware iLok dongle is not required. PSP provides three activations, which can be placed on computers or iLok dongles.
PSP BBDelay is available in AudioUnit, VST, VST3, and AAX formats for macOS 10.14 Mojave through macOS Tahoe, including Intel and Apple Silicon systems. The Windows version supports Windows 7 through Windows 11 in VST, VST3, and AAX formats.
