Foundations Music Academy offers private music lessons and group classes for students of all ages at four Central Ohio locations: Powell, Lewis Center, Hilliard, and Dublin.
We have covered online learning tools before, and apps can be useful for a convenient way to start learning piano or music theory at home. But there is still a difference between following software lessons and working with a teacher who can notice posture, technique, tone, timing, and confidence in the room.
That is the gap Foundations Music Academy is built around. The school offers one-on-one lessons in piano, guitar, voice, violin, drums, cello, viola, flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, and more, as well as early childhood music classes for younger students.
The Powell location is at 4012 Presidential Parkway and serves families in Powell, Worthington, Delaware, and the Olentangy Local Schools community. The school also has locations in Lewis Center, Hilliard, and Dublin.
Foundations was founded in 2008 as Powell Academy of Music and says it has helped more than 5,000 students. The academy is locally owned and led by working musicians, with faculty who include experienced performers and members of the Columbus Symphony Orchestra.
The teaching philosophy is less about pushing every student through the same path and more about matching lessons to the student’s goals and learning style. That matters whether the student is a young beginner, a teen preparing for performances, or an adult who finally wants to take music lessons seriously.
In addition to the weekly lessons, Foundations offers recitals, performance opportunities, group classes, camps, workshops, and its Level Up progression program, which provides students with clear milestones as they improve.
Lessons are month-to-month rather than locked into long-term contracts, and Foundations offers unlimited makeup lessons with at least 24 hours’ notice. The Powell page also lists a 30-minute trial lesson as the first step for new students.
