Plea Tech Audio has released Super Wide, a free stereo widening plugin for Windows.
Plea Tech is a one-person independent plugin company based in Denmark, and Super Wide is their first plugin I’ve tested. First impressions are positive.
Super Wide is built to add stereo width while keeping the center stable, and Plea Tech says it avoids the hollow phase cancellation and blurred attacks that aggressive widening often causes. The Width control ranges from full mono at 0% to an exaggerated 200% stereo image, so it also doubles as a quick mono utility.
The plugin gives you six main controls to work with.
Diverge adds subtle micro-pitch movement so a mono source feels like two slightly different sources, which the developer says is intended to avoid an obvious chorus wobble.
Spread distributes different frequency ranges across the stereo field, adding depth and separation without the large delays or metallic comb-filtering artifacts that Plea Tech designed it to avoid.
Focus reinforces the center while adding a bit of tape-style saturation and high-frequency air to the side signal. This works surprisingly well for enhancing the stereo feel of the signal.
Transient lets you shape the initial attack. Lower values keep attacks like drums, plucks, or vocals centered, while higher values push attacks toward the edges. Mix is the standard dry/wet control.
There are useful safeguards here, too. Audio below 135 Hz is automatically locked to mono, and the M, L, and R buttons let you audition the mono sum or hear what the sides are doing. Since stereo widening should always be checked in mono anyway, that monitoring is super useful here.
A recent update improved transient handling, so attacks are better preserved at extreme settings, and streamlined the installation process.

Plea Tech also released TR-Saturn, a free/pay-what-you-want transient saturator designed mainly for drums. It has an ultra-fast detector that separates the transient from the sustain, applying saturation and harmonic shaping to the initial hit while the body and tail are meant to stay clean.
You can tweak the Drive with analog harmonic shaping, a React detector-speed control, Character modes, Loud Match for level-matched comparison, and monitor toggles.
Both plugins are 64-bit VST3 for Windows 10 and Windows 11.
