Golden DSP has released Silkbrush Reverb, a ducking reverb plugin for macOS and Windows, priced at $39 during launch.
Silkbrush is designed for vocals and other lead sounds that need ambiance without being pushed back by the reverb tail. It combines a modulated hall-style reverb with built-in ducking, so you do not need a separate compressor and sidechain route.
The interesting part is that, while ducking, Silkbrush does more than turn down the reverb output. Its detector also reduces the signal entering the reverb tank, and that basically prevents a long tail from quietly accumulating energy and flooding back over the next vocal line when the ducking releases.
The ducking response is continuous rather than a simple open-or-closed gate. Curve shapes how the reverb returns, and it moves from a quick snap-back to a later swell. On the other hand, Swell determines how much energy can build inside the reverb.
Vocal Pocket makes the processing more frequency-conscious. Instead of lowering the entire tail, it can focus the ducking on the midrange occupied by the lead. That basically leaves low-end weight and high-frequency air in place.
You can adjust the pocket boundaries directly on the display, and Focus morphs between broadband ducking and the narrowest pocket.
Underneath the ducking section is a three-tank Mid/Side reverb. Separate Mid and Side tanks feed a shorter Glue tank, while Side Duck lets the stereo ambiance remain open as the center moves out of the lead vocal’s way.
The standard controls cover size, decay, pre-delay, damping, stereo width, and wet level. Weight gives the low frequencies a separate decay time, ranging from one-quarter to four times the main decay, and Liquid moves the sound from clean spaces toward a smoother, more modulated hardware-style character.
Soft Attack removes sharp transients from the reverb send before they smear into the tail, which is pretty useful on drums and percussion.
The interface visualizes the reverb tail, ducking threshold, and Vocal Pocket.
Silkbrush comes with 65 presets and offers search, favorites, and tag filtering. Golden DSP says its optimized engine can execute in as little as 0.4 milliseconds. There’s also a Tracking mode that further reduces CPU usage.

Silkbrush runs as a VST3, AU, AAX, or standalone application on macOS and 64-bit Windows 10/11. The Mac version supports Intel and Apple Silicon processors. A feature-limited demo is available, and one-time online activation allows offline use afterward.
