I love dub music, especially the old-school stuff. Rootical Dub aims for a more modern style, but it is still nice to see something like this available for free.
And I could help but fire up my favorite Scientist track while writing this article, so I’ll share it below to set the mood.
Oh, and I absolutely love featuring WAV sample packs from time to time. As I’ve said in previous articles, they remind me of an earlier era of music production, before we had quite so many plugins and AI tools.
You would simply download a folder of WAV files, add it to your sample library, and start making music. BPB featured far more sample packs than VST plugins back then, whereas the situation is almost completely reversed now.
Free sample packs have become somewhat rare, so Rootical Dub is a welcome throwback for me, even if its dub sounds are more contemporary.
Rootical Dub is a 500 MB collection made for modern steppers-style dub. Everything is set to 128 BPM and B-flat minor, so the included material should be easy to combine into a complete track.
The pack contains 66 loops, 41 one-shots, and 11 MIDI files. The sounds cover bass, drums, skanking horn riffs, electric keys, percussion, music loops, and echoing vocal hits. Wet and dry versions are supplied where possible, so you have the choice between ready-processed sounds and material you can run through your own effects.
The Launch Pad series is designed to provide the basic ingredients for starting a song, rather than a huge archive you need to sort through. The instrument loops are mixed by hand, and the WAV format means you can drag them directly into practically any modern DAW or sampler.
The sounds are 100% royalty-free. Rootical Dub is currently listed at $0 on the product page, but there is no expiry date shown, so I would grab it sooner rather than later if it sounds useful.
