AV Linux 6.0 Released! (A Completely Free Linux-Based Virtual Studio)

6

Bandshed.net has released AV Linux 6.0, a self-contained Linux distribution which is tailored for working with multimedia and audio/video production.

After a very turbulent development period AV Linux 6.0 is finally here. This is a state-of-the-art release that culminates over 5 versions and 5 years of experience and refinement into the best release to date.

AV Linux 6.0 is available for free download via Bandshed.net (2,5GB download size, ISO image). The cool thing about this is that you can run the system from a USB drive, without having to install it on a hard drive.

I can’t find the complete list of the included applications (help, anyone?), but I know that AV Linux features the most popular open source programs, as well as demo versions of popular commercial software. So, although I’m a complete noob when it comes to Linux, I really like the idea of having a complete studio on a USB drive. Man, I’ll have to check this one out!

UPDATE: Regarding the included applications, reader silkjoke informed me that the complete list is available on page 28 of the official user manual. I took a quick look and saw that they included Qtractor, LMMS, ArdourVST (with Windows VST support!), LinuxDSP stuff, etc. Looking great so far!
