Steven Bateman has released OSCore, an emulation of the OSCar hardware analogue synthesizer for Native Instruments Reaktor.

This is my first synth with Reaktor, I’m a guitarist but wanted to dabble in the world of synths so I figured the best way to start learning synthesis would be to build one.

OSCore is available for free download via Native Instruments (670 kB download size, contains 1 instrumen in ENS format for Native Instruments Reaktor).

While this isn’t meant to be an exact emulation of the OSCar synthesizer, it does share the same functionality and similar design. The comments posted by the users who have tested this virtual synthesizer have been quite positive so far, so give it a go if you’re a fan of vintage synthesizers.

Please note that you’ll need to be logged in to your Native Instruments website account in order to download the instrument. The registration process is completely free.

The original OSCar is an analogue monophonic synthesizer which was manufactured by the Oxford Synthesiser Company (aka OSC) in 1983. It was often regarded as the British version of the Minimoog, even though it offer many additional features and had a distinctive sound of its own.

If you’re looking for a more faithful recreation of the original instrument, take a look at the ImpOSCar2 virtual synthesizer by GForce Software. It is priced at £139.99 in their online shop and is regarded as the most precise OSCar emulation currently available.
