Need a Name has released Aria, a freeware experimental virtual synthesizer ensemble for Native Instruments Reaktor.
Hey guys, I released a new Reaktor ensemble named Aria, it’s an experimental synthesizer. The synth is mostly enjoyable when playing it with a dynamic keyboard, ’cause filters are modulated by velocity.
Aria is available for free download via Need a Name (1.9 MB download size, ZIP archive, contains 1 instrument in ENS format for Native Instruments Reaktor).
The cool thing about Aria is that most on the controls on the GUI aren’t labeled. You’ll need to use your ears in order to figure out what some of the knobs do, which may actually lead to a certain creativity boost while tweaking this synthesizer. It’s fun to explore an instrument just by listening to it, instead of simply following the labels on your computer screen.
Described as an experimental synthesizer by the developer, Aria falls somewhere between a classic VA and a soundscape/SFX synthesizer. It’s possible to get some nice leads and pads out of it, as well as some huge soundscapes colored by the built-in reverb and chorus effects.
Need a Name has released two other great freebies for NI Reaktor, all of which are available for free download directly from the developers website. They’re also offering a collection of free sound banks for several commercial synthesizers by other developers. An interesting collection of freeware VSTi plugins is offered on the Old Software page.
Please note that the full version of NI Reaktor is required in order to use Aria without limitations. It will only work for 15 minutes in the freeware Reaktor Player.
