Valve Filter VF-1 (€25 standard price) is a vintage style multi-mode filter, emulating a classic Moog ladder filter design (LP and HP modes) paired up with Telefunken ECC83 tubes for added grit and warmth. The valve emulation can operate in triode and pentode modes, with adjustable bias and gain parameters (ranging from 0 dB to 36 db). VF-1 also features a handy gain meter display and a built-in preset manager, providing a useful selection of factory presets. Finally, a nifty randomize function is included for full randomization of all available parameters.

The plugin is perfect as a sound design tool for creating long filter sweeps and all sorts of sound effects, as well as a versatile mixing utility for tonal shaping and tube style saturation. The emulated tube circuitry delivers that creamy saturated sound at lower gain settings, but it can also be pushed into full-on overdrive for a much heavier distorted sound. Both filter modes are extremely well designed, sporting analog like behavior that is still somewhat of a rarity on today’s plugin market. The plugin was recently updated with an enhanced parameter smoothing algorithm, resulting in extremely mellow and pleasant sounding filter sweeps.
