Sonixinema Releases Free Tongue Drum Sample Library

4

Sonixinema has released Medicine Man, a freely downloadable sample library featuring the sounds of a handmade steel tongue drum.

Medicine Man was made by Saša Dukić, a music producer and sound designer who is best known as PsiloCybian. He sampled a handmade tongue drum instrument and turned it into a sound library for Native Instruments Kontakt. The download pack only contains a single monolith NKI instrument file, so you’ll need the full version of Kontakt to play Medicine Man without the 15-minute demo limitation. The samples aren’t provided in WAV format, meaning that you can use an alternative sampler.

As soon as I played the first note in Kontakt, I was blown away by the instruments lush and spacious tone. I absolutely love it when sample libraries sound great right of the box and Medicine Man definitely falls into that category. Check out the demo video at the top of this page to hear the instrument in action. The tongue drum samples are layered with various other other tones which add a sense of depth and space to the overall sound. The only drawback is that the amount of reverb can’t be adjusted unless you do some manual tweaking in the instrument settings. But even so, I’m definitely keeping Medicine Man as a secret weapon for layering over synth pad and leads, or even for use as a solo instrument.

This is the first release in Sonixinema’s newly launched Playground product line which will feature the works of sound designers from around the world. With such a great product offered at launch, I’m excited to see what the team at Sonixinema has in store for us. To download your free copy of Medicine Man, complete the checkout process on the product page linked below. You will need to create a Sonixinema user account.

Medicine Man is available for free download via Sonixinema (444 MB download size, ZIP archive, compatible with Native Instruments Kontakt).

Shame the wav files aren’t available, – I purposefully avoid NI in an effort to save money and CPU. I love their products, but enjoy working within certain constraints.
