Tonerig Instability Is FREE For BPB Readers Until January 26th

Tonerig offers the Instability ($10+ value) modulation plugin as a free (pay what you want) product for all Bedroom Producers Blog readers until January 26th, 2021.

Instability uses random pitch modulation and amplitude modulation to simulate the pitch inconsistencies of vintage tape recorders. It’s the perfect effect for lo-fi hip-hop, synthwave, downtempo electronica, and more. Basically, it’s a VST plugin for everyone who wants to make their music sound more lo-fi and analog.

You can use the plugin to apply subtle pitch and volume instability to virtual instruments, sampled audio, field recordings, and more. Simulate the audio characteristics of old VHS tapes, audio cassettes, and vinyl record players. Use a tape saturation effect like BPB Saturator in tandem with Tonerig Instability for a more authentic tape-like sound.

Tonerig Instability is a sound design tool that will make any audio source sound more lush and aesthetic. If you make retro-inspired music, the Instability plugin is a must-have audio tool in your music production software arsenal.

The plugin features a minimal user interface with six control parameters. The user can adjust the pitch and volume modulation separately by fine-tuning the speed, depth, and stereo knobs.

The default color scheme is a white background with black knobs and labels (pictured on the screenshot above). Alternatively, you can choose the dark color scheme which inverts the GUI colors.

Here’s how the developer describes the Instability plugin:

“Instability is a random modulator of pitch and amplitude that can be used to breathe life into any sound by adding a slight bit of movement. You can create crazy, chaotic warbling messes, produce pretty chorus-like effects with a huge stereo image, or make your sounds as if they’ve played through an old tape recorder for that lo-fi aesthetic.”

Tonerig Instability is normally a “pay what you want” product with a minimum $10 payment. BPB readers can get the plugin for free until January 26th, 2021.

Visit the promo page linked below and enter zero as the price to download the plugin for free. Alternatively, you can still enter any other amount to support Tonerig and help them develop more plugins.

The software is available in VST3 and AU plugin formats for compatible digital audio workstations on PC and Mac. Only 64-bit plugin hosts are supported.

  1. Thank you. I think I will try this. I just got that idea of using this on vocals that has been overprocessed with pitch correction and see how that sound :o)

  2. Positive thumbs down: Nobody likes “insert your credit card info” when it’s just to emulate a $0 purchase plus most amazing software on ITCH.IO does not require registration. All for a modulation plugin of 1 MB expecting donation someday? :D Developers: learn from Surge, Matt Tytel or Full Bucket: TONS of code at one click… those are the people you DO love to donate later. Not for the quantity nor the quality but their attittude.

    • Positive thumbs up. Not sure what you encountered but no credit card details were required for me to download this. The developer has put together a nice demo on YouTube and the plugin sounds useful – give the bloke a chance.

  3. I didn’t have to to put any credit card info either, it didn’t even ask for any info, just to log in to itch.

Having fun with it now, really nice plug in! Looking forward to see what the dev is going to make in the future.
