T-De-Esser Plus Is A New FREE De-Esser Plugin By Techivation

Techivation releases T-De-Esser Plus, a FREE de-esser VST plugin for macOS and Windows.

If that intro sounds familiar, it’s because earlier this year, we covered T-De-Esser from Techivation. The new T-De-Esser Plus is an upgrade that bridges the gap between free and an upcoming paid version (T-De-Esser Pro).

If you missed the original release, you should definitely check it out this time; it’s one of the best freebies in recent months.

Functionally, T-De-Esser Plus is almost exactly the same as the original release.

To recap, it’s excellent for removing sibilance in vocals and harshness from instruments. It’s also helpful in restoring tonal balance to a poor recording.

In short, it’s about controlling and taming any problem areas that need to be reined in a little. The aim is to do so while maintaining a natural sound, and it does that very well.

The difference is that the GUI now includes premium features of the upcoming Pro version (all but one are locked).

Basically, it’s a teaser that hopes to charm you into buying the Pro version. I don’t say that negatively; developers have to make money, and Techivation has delivered an awesome freebie, whether you buy or not.

Also, based on the quality of T-De-Esser, I’m inclined to think a paid version will have real substance. Not like a movie trailer that gives you 60 seconds of awesomeness before you pay to find out the remaining one hour and 59 minutes is slightly less enjoyable than watching paint dry or doing your taxes.

Having said that, no one makes me stubbornly wait for the end credits like a school bell of freedom; that’s on me.

The unlocked premium feature is Audition (Delta-Listening). Delta-Listening allows you to listen to the de-esser filter’s frequency range or just the sounds that are being processed. It’s a nice workflow tool that makes it easy to make fast and accurate comparisons.

If you decide you aren’t going to go the Pro route and don’t want to see those locked features on the GUI, you can revert to the original T-De-Esser.

I highly recommend you check this one out, especially if you missed the original release.

T-De-Esser Plus is available in 32/64-bit AU, VST, VST3, and (64-bit) AAX formats for macOS (Mojave 10.14 – Big Sur 11.2.2) and Windows 7 upwards. Compatible with Intel and M1 Rosetta 2 Macs.

  1. Thanks James, another great write up sir 😊💛
This update feature is very handy.
Also with the original version, i had excellent results using this to tame a sharp snare drum included in the section of guitar which i had sampled, leaving the guitar sounding even better than before, allowing me to turn the sample up in my mix without a large volume spike 👍

    • Great to hear your feedback, as always, Purefire.

I think the T-De-Esser is great, It’s one that I’m sure I’ll return to many times. Glad to hear it helped you out, too!

      I hope you’re well, cheers.
