Cube Mini (usually $49) is the cheaper, lite version of Cube, a 3D sound blender plugin.
Cube Mini allows you to morph between multiple samples in some weird and wonderful ways. You’ll see an orb in the cube’s center, representing your sound or blend of samples.
Each corner of the cube represents a different sample, and the closer the orb is to a corner, the louder that sample becomes in your mix.
The concept isn’t dissimilar to how we’d use an X/Y pad to morph various effects in many plugins. But I really like the idea of taking layers of samples, creating movement between them, and highlighting specific sounds at the right time, all from one easy-to-use interface.
How the orb moves can be as deliberate or as random as you need it to be; you can design your own orbit path or choose from over 50 available predefined paths.
Cube Mini provides 35 multi-sampled sound sources, including synths, pads, percussion, strings, and more. As each corner represents a sample, you have eight sample editors with dedicated arpeggiators, filters, envelopes, step-sequencers, and multiple modes.
On the surface, Cube Mini looks like a clever, fun, and easy way to add movement, but as we get into the feature set, it’s easy to see some serious sound design potential.
Lunacy Audio’s expert sound designers have created 120 presets that showcase the plugin’s power. Additionally, expansion packs are available.
