It isn’t quite the holiday season without some freebies, now is it?
Today’s selection covers one of my favorite effects, and I am talking about reverb, of course.
SlimVerb is the latest freebie from the folks over at 2B Played, but you don’t have much time to grab it. From now until December 25th, you can snag SlimVerb for the low cost of nothing. After that, you’ll have to pay to use this plugin in your productions.
So, what is SlimVerb? SlimVerb is an analogue-modelled reverb that is slim on controls but big on features. You’ve got access to the bare essentials when it comes to parameter control, but I personally prefer it that way.
There is a wonderful analog drive option that helps add some saturation and grit to the character of the reverb.
Beyond that, you’ve got controls for dampening the sound, as well as controlling the decay of low and high frequencies. It isn’t quite like a pair of filters, but you can get quite close to the Abbey Road trick.
SlimVerb’s sound is deep and spacious when wanted, but I found it ideal as a mixing reverb rather than one intended for sound design.
I’ve spent most of the season fiddling around with Pro-R 2, which is perhaps an unfair comparison. However, I found the likes of SlimVerb to be quite a breath of fresh air when compared to some of the freebies I’ve used.
SlimVerb is based on the more premium PrimeVerb and serves as a lighter version of the full package. Despite being a slimmed-down version, it is still more than capable of handling any of your reverb duties.
To get SlimVerb for free, you’ll need to add it to your cart and use the coupon code SLIMFREE at checkout. This promotion is only viable until the 25th of December, so you’ll need to act fast to get this freebie in your plugin folder.
SlimVerb is available for Mac and Windows computers. Supported plugin formats are AU and VST3. It is also available for Intel and Apple Silicon processors.
