Venus Theory has released auras:polyscape, a deep cinematic sound library for the FREE Decent Sampler plugin.
I’m sure most of you are familiar with Cameron, also known as Venus Theory, a musician, composer, and sound designer who shares his work and valuable insights on his successful YouTube channel.
If you haven’t checked out the Venus Theory channel yet, I recommend having a look; there’s lots of great stuff.
Somewhat inspired by the relatively recent Spitfire LABS+ change from entirely free to subscription-based, Venus Theory set out to put something free back into the community.
The best news is that auras:polyscape is just the first installment of what will become a series of free instruments. As the header states, auras:polyscape runs in the free Decent Sampler plugin, so free really means free.
auras:polyscape and the auras series explore deep, dark, evolving cinematic soundscapes taken from Venus Theory’s custom PolyBrute 12 patches.
Arturia’s PolyBrute 12 is a monster of a synth with a hefty price tag, so getting these sounds for free is a serious score.
Back in 2021, when Arturia released the original PolyBrute, I remember the Morphée XYZ controller dividing opinions, with some instantly branding it as a gimmick without real substance.
I like the Morphée controller; it lets you direct vast soundscapes through various textures and emotions without overthinking; it feels intuitive and natural.
Besides making the jump from six-voice to twelve-voice, another showcase feature of the Polybrute 12 is the Motion Recorder.
The Motion Recorder allows you to record movements of synth controls, like the Morphée controller, then play it back with every note you trigger (and it’s polyphonic).
It offers incredible control over the movement and evolution of a patch, and it’s relative here because Venus Theory has put it to great use with the sounds we’ll hear from auras:polyscape.
auras:polyscape provides evolving cinematic sounds that are otherworldly and organic, with every perfect imperfection captured through analogue tube preamps.
The smooth-looking interface has several sections: Amp, Volume, Filter, and FX. The Volume section includes Dynamics and Expression sliders (bound to CC1 and CC11, respectively), and these controls, along with the “A-B” layer system, allow you to guide and shape the sound in real-time.
And if you need more expressiveness, the Velocity button provides a more natural response to your playing.
With the above controls, amp and filter cutoff envelopes, and built-in FX, you have more than enough to put your own stamp on what are already incredible sounds.
However, if dark, ominous, unsettling, cinematic soundscapes are your thing, you’ll love auras:polyscape. For more free cinematic sounds, check out Flame Sound’s freebie pack.

onComputer Music fall issue (339) is published today, and it features a greatly overhauled CM plugin suite now at V3
New additions include GForce Axxess, Rob Papen Go 2 and Inphonik RYM2612
But I lament that many good plugins from V2, has not been carried into V3

onI’d assume you can still download them by going to the folders for past issues.

onAnyone else getting “0% – Errors were encountered” error when you drag the .ds onto the Decent Sampler interface? If so, anyone know how to fix? Thought maybe I had an old version of DS but I installed the new one, same thing

onHi. Can you try loading the instrument manually instead of drag and dropping?
