Brainworx has made its Bx_megasingle guitar amp and cab sim available for free at Plugin Alliance, down from a previous price of $149.
The plugin is a macOS and Windows release for VST, VST3, AU, and AAX formats.
The Bx_megasingle is an unofficial emulation of Mesa Boogie’s Single Rectifier amp, and the package includes the amp, cab simulation and an FX rack.

The Mesa Boogie Single Rectifier amp debuted in 1998 and is known for delivering thunderous high gain tones perfect for modern metal while also delivering the goods with punchy and warm clean and crunch tones.
Brainworx owner Dirk Ulrich worked as a rock producer for 15 years before founding the company.
He made the Bx_megasingle IRs with three different cabinets and nine high-end modern and vintage mics.
Ulrich ran the tones through his Neve VXS72 console and outboard EQs from Millennia, SPL, and Elysia.
The result is a faithful reproduction of the original amp, with more than 60 impulse responses utilizing the various speaker cabs.
Like the original amp, there are rhythm and lead channels with individual master and gain controls, as well as three-band EQs for each channel.
Channel one (rhythm) has clean and pushed modes, while channel two (lead) has raw and modern modes for a wide range of tasty tones.
Brainworx has also expanded the feature set of the original amp, as the digital version includes new additions such as a noise gate, delay and power soak.

Plugin Alliance features 16 SoundCloud audio demos on the product page if you’d like to hear what all that sounds like in practice.
The distributor also showcases a user YouTube demo that features five minutes of various tones from the plugin.
If you’ve ever played one of these amps, you’ll know what to expect. I reckon Ulrich has captured the vibe of the amp quite well here.
Bx_megasingle was originally released back in 2017, so it’s not quite a state-of-the-art amp sim technology at this point, but if you’re a Mesa Boogie enjoyer then there’s a lot to love here.
Links to the installers are hosted right on the product page, which looked very promising, but unfortunately, when I clicked them it prompted me to create a free account. Oh well, at least it was a reasonably quick sign-up.
The plugin appears to now be permanently available as a freebie, as it’s part of Plugin Alliance’s PA Free promo, where you get 20 free plugins for signing up to the site.
Thanks to BPB reader Numanoid for the info about the Bx_megasingle deal.
