Dreamwave has released Tarantula, a free chorus plugin inspired by classic chorus effect boxes.
The plugin offers four chorus modes, plus a standard triangle wave LFO and hyper triangle LFO.
The hyper triangle LFO produces a more prominent chorus effect and is ideal for synth leads that sound slightly thin.
Each chorus mode is inspired by the developer’s favorite settings on famous chorus hardware units.
As I mentioned, the chorus effect is ideal for synth sounds that need a little help; I have an old KingKorg, and it has a lot of sounds that are almost there but not quite.
A nice chorus thickens the tone and lets the sound take its place in the mix easier.
Tarantula is easy to use and provides a no-fuss classic chorus effect for vocals and instruments, especially electric pianos, synths, and guitars.
There’s no shortage of free chorus effects, but if there’s one thing most of us have in common, it’s that we’ll stack up 100 tools for the same job without much hesitation.
The justification is that each plugin has a distinct character; if you want a chorus plugin that embodies the term distinct character, try Mouth of Sorrow by Freakshow Industries.
Tarantula is available in AU and VST3 formats for macOS and Windows and requires online activation.
In addition to the freebie, Dreamwave is running a 50% discount site-wide as part of its anniversary sale.
If you like the sound of Tarantula and the quirky but minimal approach to GUI design, you should check out Dreamwave’s other products before the sale ends.
Solid State Logic is also running a massive 95% off sale on its SSL Native X-Comp plugin. I’m not sure when the offer will end, but I just tried it (14th Feb), and it’s still working, so move fast.
The downside of the SSL sale is that it’s another plugin I already own! Between Native X-Comp and the UAD 1176 giveaway, I’m starting to think I’m being Punk’d, and early 2000s Ashton Kutcher is going to jump out when I finally snap!
