Unplugred has released multiple well-received plugins over the past couple of years, and the popular developer is back with another typically quirky offering – Magic Carpet, a free delay plugin for macOS, Windows, and Linux.
Last year, we got Diet Audio, the free spectral gate plugin, and before that, we had Prisma, a multiband distortion.
This time, we’ve got Magic Carpet, an experimental delay plugin for all major operating systems.
Like previous releases, Magic Carpet is available for free download with a rotating banner on the interface. If you want to support the developer and remove the banner, you can do so by becoming an Unplugred Patreon.

Magic Carpet features three independently adjustable delay lines sharing the same feedback path. The easy-to-use delay plugin can be subtle but becomes richer and more dense as you increase the feedback.
Unplugred says the delay “starts sparse but continues to get denser with each feedback. The result is a very full-sounding delay with not a lot of gaps.”
The plugin has a random button that creates new random settings with each press. It also has a Noise Mode available via the right-click menu.
The Noise Mode is a nice addition, and it’s where the experimental nature of the plugin comes out. It’s not experimental in the sense of being complex or unusual, but it’s unpredictable.
The heightened feedback levels and noisy delays can produce some awesome sounds; its unpredictability means you have to keep an eye on the levels.
Magic Carpet has more in common with previous Unplugred releases than just being free. It continues the trend of GUIs that are quirky, artsy, retro, rough around the edges, and highly functional.
The interface design is a significant part of the developer’s branding style; I think it started as a love/hate thing for users, but most have grown fond of the sometimes harsh but always easy-to-use design.
Magic Carpet is available in AU, VST3, and CLAP formats for macOS, Windows, and Linux.
