One of these plugins is the 32Channel Classic by Harrison Consoles, emulated from the original hardware unit used by Michael Jackson, John Coltrane, and Led Zeppelin.
32Channel Classic is a fully featured channel strip boasting a four band EQ, highpass and lowpass filters, as well as a compressor, gate/expander and a transformer model if you control dynamics and dial in some additional saturation flavor.
Saturation is based on the Jensen JT-MB-CPCA transformer-coupled mic pre and is controlled with the “Drive” knob. There’s a meter to help you gain stage the plugin appropriately, which always helps.
The EQ has proportional Q-values, and the highest and lowest band can be configured as either bell or shelf.
Various routing options for the EQ, compressor and gate are also available.
All of 32Channel Classic’s processing modules have an integrated “listen” to help you really zoom in on what you’re doing. Nice!
The compressor has a sidechain filter with sweepable frequency and an “Emphasis” knob that lets you shape your sound. This makes the compressor react more quickly to louder events for additional smoothing.
Furthermore, the compressor has three different styles:
- “Comp” is a traditional all-arounder with selectable ratio, attack and release
- “Level” is meant for smoother levelling operations with lower ratios and gain reduction
- “Limit” is fast, aggressive and perfect for slamming instruments, crushing room mics and eating peaks in general
The gate can help in either eliminating unnecessary noise, taming microphone bleed, or creatively shape dynamics in a drum track, for instance.
All the dynamic modules have visual feedback to show you the amount of reduction going on at any given time.

Sometimes it’s nice to have all your tools right next to each other. Channel strips like 32Channel Classic cover all your basic mixing needs in one insert and in the same interface, making for an effective workflow.
If you’re a good mixer this plugin probably covers all your needs, to be honest.
Should you happen to be in the market for hardware emulations, you probably won’t get 32Channel Classic at a lower price point than this. At 91% off, this deal is quite frankly a steal.
