Lancaster Audio teamed up with Aurora DSP to create Pulse 2 for Mac and PC. It works in all major DAWs and is the only freeware impulse response loader for Pro Tools.
At its core, Pulse 2 does what any good IR loader should: it provides structure and a speedier way to get the best out of your impulse responses.
With a faster way to find and utilize the right impulse response, you can focus more on creative choices rather than tedious processes.
As for compatibility, you can load Lancaster Audio IRs and 3rd-party impulse responses. So, if you already have a collection of impulse responses, they should work in Pulse 2.
Pulse 2 offers four IR slots, each with a dedicated filter and Offset controls.

Beyond the ability to search and load impulse responses quickly, Pulse 2 features a unique IR blending tool.
This is where Pulse 2 will become very interesting for the real tone freaks. If you’re one of those guitarists who gets offended by tonal variation that most people don’t even hear, it could be for you (it’s your tone; you should be obsessive over it, within healthy limits, of course, haha).
You can drag the cursor between all four (or any in use) IR slots to create the perfect blend; it’s super-easy and super-impactful.

In addition to the dedicated filter controls per slot, you get an expandable EQ section, allowing you to craft your tone with precision.
The expandable EQ section features Lo Shelf, Lo Mid, Hi Mid, and Hi Shelf, each with Q and Frequency controls.
Lancaster Audio has included four impulse responses from its Producer Packs to get you started. The Lancaster Audio store features IR packs from producers like Bob Marlette and Warren Huart, ranging from $29 to $50.

Sticking with the guitar theme, if you’re like me and no amount of tone shaping will mask the terrible, terrible noise you’re making with those strings, check out UJAM’s Sparkle 2 virtual guitarist. UJAM’s Sparkle 2 is available for free until May 4, 2025; there is still a while to go, but time flies, so grab it while you can.
